Sometimes all you need is a nudge in the right direction.
A Level Tuition
For some of our clients, an unsupportive school, disruptive class, or interrupted education can mean that their marks and grades are not where they ought to be for a competitive university application.
At Spyglass, as a part of our Admissions Package, we can provide comprehensive 1:1 tutoring for students in almost all A Level subjects.
External Assessment Coaching
Admissions tests, essay competitions, Olympiads, and Academic awards are all common encounters for students determined to prove themselves within ever-improving cohorts of applicants.
Entering these fields is not enough, though - and at Spyglass we are able to provide comprehensive support for submissions to a wide range of competitions across multiple subjects. We also retain the authors of several key texts on admissions tests, as well as former examiners and exam markers for leading UK university admissions tests, who will be available for 1:1 test coaching.
University Supervision
We also provide dedicated academic mentoring and supervision services for University students, ranging from first-year undergraduate to first year doctoral level.
At Spyglass, we have supported university students at the universities of Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, UCL, Imperial, Bristol, Manchester, Bath, and Queen Mary, among others. In the US, we have also supported students at Duke, Case Western, Wharton, Stanford, and North Carolina Chapel Hill.

How can we help?
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you use any university students in your mentoring?
No. Unlike most other admissions coaching companies, which rely on unqualified undergraduate students to provide admissions strategy and coaching, we prioritise quality and reliability over speed or scale. All of our staff (including administrators) have at least a master’s degree from either Oxford or Cambridge and professional education experience or at least 20 years of experience in their subject specialism. No exceptions.
Do you offer a guarantee of Results?
We do not. We always help our students perform better, understand their objectives with greater clarity, and feel more confident in their assignments, but there are many factors which affect exam performance, and performance in externally marked assessments, that it is not posssible to guarantee how a student will perform come exam day or the submission deadline. We will, however, ensure that every student has the maximum opportunity to complete their work to the highest possible standard, and in good time.
When is the best time to start tutoring?
Today. We generally advise that preparation for any assessment begins as soon as you have been able to identify a need for it. For admissions test, preparation should begin at least six months before the test date, and for other kinds of independent assessment - whenever the specification becomes available. We have also seen many students excel with us after only a short time, given intensive work and very high levels of commitment, and so later starts are also possible. Please be aware that, with late starts - students will be set increased and accelerated schemes of work in order to compensate.
Can I add extra elements to my package later?
Yes. In our experience, adding additional elements to your package can mean that they begin later than we would recommend, or cause difficulties in adoption for students, so we advise against it. However, in the years that we have all been working in admissions, we have become well aware that circumstances and even plans can change, and extra support can be added to your package as needed, after the initial engagement.
How much tutoring do you provide?
At Spyglass, our primary concern is student wellbeing, and the realisation of their goals. For some students, only a small amount of support is needed, for others - they require direct support over many years to teach entire exam specifications. We provide support in line with your needs, no more, and no less. We won’t push for extra sessions that you don’t need, and we won’t skimp on providing valuable support when it will help. Every single package is created just for our client, and they are unique. However, what we can guarantee is that every single student will receive whatever support they need to get back on their feet and realise their own objectives.
What impact does tutoring have?
Considerable - our students are generally able to increase their overall performance at A level by more than one grade over an 8 month period, and we have been able to help students to completely transform submissions for competitions and university into award-winning pieces, even from a blank page.
